Personal development and the lie of Self Improvement

From the word go, we are programmed to believe that we must ourselves better. As we've grown up in the Christian tradition, we learned that his damaged goods in need of repentance-that not, in fact the core of the Christian message-in fact, we are told that we are the children of God. In addition, as a result of social need to meet to us, we are encouraged to make ourselves better by getting a good education. Admittedly, there is nothing wrong with sufficient equipment to us for the role we want, need or be forced to put in life (but to what extent the normal education curriculum rest us?), but as a result, we are constantly fed the subliminal message that we must improve our imperfect itself.

Enter "self-improvement"-a whole industry devoted to enable people to better-are build self-esteem, improve their personality, build self-confidence, find their true selves. Although this is all very commendable (I've worked with customers in this field more than 14 years), the problem is the starting point from which the entire process begins-you self improvement. You're not! Instead, you must use the mountain or programming luggage, which was heaped upon you unlearn during your formative years. In those early years, when you were young and impressionable, formed an impression of yourself that is way wide of the mark. as an adult, you now believe fully in your perceived mistakes, shortcomings and deficiencies.

I use the word "perceived" because that's all what your beliefs are-perceptions.Psychology tells us that, during our formative years, when our young, open spirit sponge-like, we teach our beliefs with "snapshots" of the events that a big enough to impress us. This formative events are large enough to our little minds to capture our attention and stick with us through in later life. The events that we tend to save as beliefs are that made a great impression on how we felt about ourselves at the point in time when the original event or series of events took place.

This "snapshots" are then stored unconsciously (we completely unaware that they have a role in our adult lives from day to day play) and, if required, to dictate our behavior or self-image as adults. And, unfortunately, research shows that we are much more likely to give credence to negative snapshots, rather than positive.

By way of example, was recently I was a few days with a client who told me that he had a mental stagnation when it came to anything to do with numbers-and that a major drawback in his business career. But after some discussion he told the following story. He told me:

"I can see it now as if it were yesterday. maybe I'm just five or six years old. It's Christmas, late afternoon on Christmas day, and me, my father, my sister and brother, are all on the dining room table games of Ludo (board game). I the dice roll, I get a five and I start counting from the squares to move my counter. My father me about the ear clips, asking me why I'm so slowly, I don't know that, if I have a five, I just go to the next corner move on the Board! That was the end of the Ludo, I was sent to my room for crying out, that the end of that first Christmas day, was as far as I was concerned. "

He can still "see", because his subconscious mind had it saved as a "snapshot"-is in his subconscious, the incorrect led him to the wrong faith, as an adult, that he was slow with numbers. This is a classic example, but not only, we all have our own unique snapshots, we also share the social snapshots which tell us that we are imperfect to self-improvement.

As I said, we don't have to improve ourselves, we must, as many psychologists have noted, unlearn. In fact, we really can not fully unlearn all the nonsense that is destroying our mind and our of our best here, today, many years later off. but what we can do is our spiritual energy to these useless and self-destructive programs stop. currently, if a normal adult, the vast majority of your spiritual energy is focused on your "family album" snapshots "and give them your subconscious attention, these dictate your daily snapshots, automatic, reactive behavior. In fact, research suggests that you probably only pay 1% or 2% attention to the reality of today.

To switch from the tables, starting with "unlearning", you have to relearn how more and more attention to the here and now-in doing so, you'll end up paying less and less attention to this old programs and you'll be released-free to the best you can be here and now, today. you need to practice with attention to what your five senses actually tell you about now-if you are hot or cold, as the sky is clear or cloudy (and all different colours the clouds might be), as the birds singing or the dryer is tumbling, if there is a smell of coffee or cooking in your nose, if there is a taste of toothpaste or stale cigarette in your mouth is. This is the essence of one of the easiest ways of tearing is greater your attention away from the nonsense that your life ruining. easy it can be, but it of course does not conflict with a normal adult-you have to spend a few minutes each day to get your attention reorientation in the only time and place that really-now.
